Research Overview
This study proposes the concept of an XR Takeaway Cafe, which integrates Extended Reality (XR) technology with Generative Conversational AI to create an immersive consumer experience. The system combines a real takeaway cafe exterior with a virtual cafe interior to enhance user interaction.
Key Technological Components
- XR Technology Utilization: Realistic implementation of the virtual cafe interior
- Real-time Gaze Tracking: Projection mapping of the virtual cafe based on the user’s eye position and direction
- AI Virtual Barista (Chatbot): A virtual AI assistant powered by ConvAI for natural interactions
Evaluation and Future Work
- User evaluations showed high immersion levels, and participants expressed willingness to use such a service if commercialized.
- Exhibited at the 2024 Korea HCI Conference Creative Award and won the Excellent Award
- Future improvements include:
- Expanding functionality (e.g., integrating actual beverage preparation)
- Supporting multiple languages
- Conducting large-scale user studies to enhance reliability and usability
